After reading this article (http://www.christianpost.com/news/few-millennials-interested-in-religion-study-finds-48471/) about millennials, I was encouraged that perhaps it will be the millennials that are able to bring revival into our communities. Personally I am glad that millennials are “less religious” as it is “religion” that is damaging our churches and doing so much to push people away from Jesus, much like the Pharisees in Jesus’ day.
Rainer says that millennials are “apathetic” towards church and maybe that is because the church has failed them and has not given them what it promised to give. Maybe millennials are “apathetic” towards church because the people in the church are more interested in playing committee games than they are in actually doing some work for the kingdom. Maybe millennials are “apathetic” toward church because the church has become a joke and meaningless. Now, let me say, the true Church, as in Christ’s bride, is triumphant and blessed, but the average local church is not that bride, but many times is a cheap, well, I’ll stop there and leave you to fill in the blank.
I really don’t look at this “apathy” as a bad thing because, seriously, in average church America, what is there to be excited about or what is really making a difference? Millennials don’t want something that doesn’t matter, they want to do something that matters and many times they don’t even care what that “something” is, they just want to make a difference and the average local church is irrelevant and doesn’t matter, so no wonder millennials are apathetic toward church.
If you want to attract millennials, start making a difference in your community and stop playing “church games” and political power struggles. It really is that simple, or is it?
